As revealed today in an tweet thread, Kojima says he tried to get the film based on the Metal Gear character Raiden off the ground. He didn’t discuss a lot of details about the project, but only that he had done some editing for it himself by the time it was canned. Everything started with the intention of Kojima at a moment of reflection on Metal Gear Solid 2’s progress today. “Raiden has been trained as a boy soldier and is used in the war system,” he said. “Tas a time, there’s been a slight backlash against that setting.” He continued his musings while saying that in reply to his tweet, “In fact, I wrote and edited a live-action news film of a real boy soldier, but he wasn’t approved and must have gone out of it”. It’s unknown how far into development the idea was before it was canceled. Kojima’s formulas suggest that there’s some sort of final product, at least something that could have been sent off for a rating. Despite that, it was rejected, likely because of the delicate topic that Kojima has mentioned to the child soldier. Despite this, searches don’t mention a cancelled project, so it must’ve been kept in good control during its production. Now with his close partnership with Sony, and many business contacts, Kojima is getting started on the ground. Couple that with his notorious interest in the medium, and maybe it’s something he will explore once more. And even better, he can get to the surface.
